Here are a few of the highlights from yesterday’s Thanksgiving extravaganza at the Barmer’s.
The World Class Menu: Turkey, Stuffing, Green Beans, Mashed Potatoes, Crescent Rolls, Smithwick’s Irish Ale (but not for the pregnant person).
The Turkey: The 17-pound turkey we bought from local farmers Roy and Treina was by far the best turkey I’ve ever had. It was more expensive than we anticipated, but in the end it was well worth it. There are a couple of reasons we will do it again next year: We enjoyed supporting a local farmer, the taste was wonderful, and it was anti-biotic and hormone free. Here’s a link to some basic info on pastured turkeys, including cost justification and nutrition information.
Earliest Riser, Best Looking Chef, and Yahtzee Champion: Krista Barmer, up at 7 to get the turkey started, looking good, and winning at Yahtzee later that afternoon.
Yahtzee Honorable Mention: Brad Hendryx, who managed to get two yahtzees in one game.
Nintendo Wii Champ: Yours truly.
Best Dessert: Rice Krispie Treats.
It was a great day… Lots of frivolity, good food, and good conversation. I hope your day was as full-filling as ours.
