“It is not that I’m so smart. But I stay with the questions much longer.”
― Albert Einstein
As you may have noticed, I’ve refurbished this blog with a fresh coat of paint and a new name! The new name is a better reflection of where I’m at and what I’d like to do here, which is to mercilessly influence you to think exactly like me, of course.
A “leading question” is one that is carefully framed to bring about the desired answer. The new blog name is an acknowledgement that just like most people, I have an inclination to want people to agree with me and I will go to great lengths to convince about a topic when I should be excavating that topic instead.
When people disagree, it often prompts an uncomfortable response because somewhere in the most primitive part of our brains we tell ourselves that disagreement means we are probably the “other” in this conversation. Or to put it more plainly, deep down within ourselves I think we all are concerned that we might be the crazy one and could end up alone with our opinion and a stale glass of wine.
If we are aware of our tendency to convince, then perhaps we can set that to the side and pave a way into an exploration of ideas. We can approach difficult subjects with an open mind and enthusiastic curiosity, even if we are never completely free from the temptation to take sides. For anyone who cares to read any of what I post here, I hope I can lead you down a path that will at least challenge you to consider these topics in a way you haven’t considered before. And at best, I hope it can encourage you to stay open and curious on your journey.
