If you enjoy writing, you also have a very special gift. That gift is the ability to come up with a lot of reasons not to write. These reasons can be very useful for someone who actually doesn’t enjoy writing and just needs a reason not to do it. Here are a few so that you can use this as a quick reference whenever you need it:
I feel blue.
I have a cold.
I need to fix the ceiling fan.
I’m almost done with the 4th season of Lost.
The computer crashed.
I’m tired.
I’m just not feelin’ it right now.
I’d like one quick game of Halo.
I can’t decide which writing software to use.
My writing environment is not ideal.
These reasons not to write have been incredibly valuable to me lately as I’ve been in a writer’s slump (I’d call it writer’s block, but that imply that I sat down to write at some point since my last post). But the real reason for this post is to determine if I actually WANT to write. Apparently, I do. I’m glad I passed the test, because writing a blog post about reasons not to write is to risk never having the gumption to write again, because if I can’t pull this off, then I might as well close shop!
Whew!
Ha Ha Ha! Very good bro. You forgot “Is that a Ren & Stimpy marathon coming on?” Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us – the deep and the humorous. Merry Christmas to you and the fam!
Ah yes, I absolutely should have included the Ren & Stimpy marathon as a viable reason not to write. 🙂
Thanks for the Christmas wishes.. I hope you and your family had a good one (not sure how I missed your comment; it must have been the craziness of the holidays).
